KITCHEN

If the kitchen is the heart of a home, then your kitchen appliances such as your refrigerator, range, microwave and dishwasher are the tools that keep it beating.

It’s important to make an informed buying decision, because you’ll be living with your choice for ten years or more.  There are many models and features to choose from, and we’ll be happy to help you evaluate the pros and cons.
 

Refrigerators:

Ask about size, capacity, finish, storage space inside the door (like for gallons of milk), shelving arrangements, where you want the freezer (top, bottom, or side-by-side) and evaluate how often you’ll use amenities such as ice makers and water dispensers on the door.  Some even have crushed ice.

Ranges:

Gas. electric, or dual-fuel stoves?  We have them all.  Come out and look inside the oven, examine the controls and ask about options such as convection ovens, warming drawers and high output BTUs on gas ranges (similar to commercial ranges.)  Many ranges now have a hidden bake element or a warming zone.

Microwaves:

Many microwaves these days are mounted over the range and also function as range hoods, but we offer tabletop models too.  Consider your family size and how much you’ll need to cook or reheat at a time;  also ask about wattage and how that relates to what you intend to use your microwave for.

Dishwashers:

Dishwashers save you time and there are more options to consider than you’d think.  Look at the number of sprayers match how you’ll use your dishwasher;  features such as delay start can enable you to run the dishwasher when you’re not home.

Dishwashers are often the loudest appliances in the kitchen, so look at how well models you’re considering dampen sound.

Laundry

Most of us can’t imagine not having a washing machine and dryer – assuming kitchen appliances are there, a washer and dryer are among the first appliances purchased when someone moves from an apartment into a home.  Here are some things to look for when buying these indispensable laundry appliances.

Washing Machines (Washers)

Quiet operation, easy to use controls and durability are prime requirements when buying a washing machine.  Front-loading models help you save money and electricity; they also tend to be smaller, quieter and are gentler on clothes than top-loading washing machines.   However, you need special detergent and won’t handle loads as large as high-capacity top-loading washers.

Dryers

Durability, quiet operation and easy to use controls are also important for clothes dryers.  They’re available in gas or electric models – gas dryers cost more initially but are cheaper to operate.
